At Zen Integrative Care, we offer holistic and conventional pharmacological treatments for people with ADHD and other attention difficulties. We work with clients ages 4-years-old and up in order to help them identify their problems, find practical solutions, and overcome them.
Known as ADHD, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurological disorder that affects the brain’s ability to regulate emotions and attention. Symptoms of the disorder include difficulty concentrating, planning, organizing tasks, sitting still, and staying focused.
In some cases, ADHD symptoms can be detected as early as three years old, although most people exhibit symptoms before the age of 12 years old.
Three types of ADHD exist: inattentive type, impulsive/hyperactive type, and combined type. Just as the labels imply, types of ADHD are determined by whether you struggle with attention, impulsivity, or both. However, ADHD is not only about being easily distracted or having difficulty concentrating – it is also about being able to regulate and control one’s behavior.
ADHD patients often have difficulty focusing but also tend to hyper-focus and tune out the rest of the world. Also, they may unintentionally interrupt others or blurt out words because they have trouble controlling their impulses.
The symptoms of ADHD are rooted in differences in the prefrontal cortex of the brain, responsible for executive functions along with behavioral and emotional control. The prefrontal cortex of some children with ADHD grows out of their symptoms as they develop, but many have difficulty managing their ADHD as adults.

A correct diagnosis is the first and most important step in getting help for attention difficulties. Unlike other medical issues, ADHD requires a different course of treatment due to its neurological characteristics. You can rule out depression and trauma with a diagnostic assessment by a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Once ADHD is identified, a combination of psychiatric interventions is the gold standard treatment. For optimal outcomes, it is necessary to continue therapy as well as take medication as this is a neurological disorder that affects both the mind and body. Our team at Zen Integrative Care is proud to provide a comprehensive, holistic approach to helping people with ADHD.
For many people with ADHD, medication is an effective part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Stimulant and non-stimulant medications support the brain’s ability to regulate attention and impulse control, making it easier to focus, organize tasks, and follow through. At Zen Integrative Care, we carefully evaluate each patient before prescribing, monitor your response closely, and adjust the plan as needed so that medication supports — rather than replaces — the therapeutic work you do.
Therapy gives you practical tools to manage the day-to-day challenges of ADHD. Working with our team, you can build strategies for planning, time management, and emotional regulation, and address the frustration or low self-esteem that often accompany attention difficulties. We combine therapy with medical treatment where appropriate, because a holistic approach that supports both the mind and the body produces the best long-term outcomes.
